With an ultimate annual production of 5000 metric tons for more than 35 years,an initial investment of more than 1.2 billion euros (800 billion CFA francs)and the creation of almost 1400 direct jobs, mining at Imouraren is the largestindustrial project ever to be envisaged in Niger. Imouraren is the largesturanium mine in Africa and the second largest in the world. Mining is due tobegin in 2012 and will enable Niger to double its current production, making itthe worlds second largest uranium producer.
