These skills it is the job of our school

Agricultural production to feed the planet, biodiversity, food security, the protection of the environment, GMOs... All subjects that are growing in our society. Gold on all these issues, a large school found in the front line: AgroParisTech, new resulting structure of the merger of three schools of Engineering: the Institut national agronomique (INA - PG), national school of agricultural and food industries (Ensia) and the Ecole nationale du Génie rural, des eaux et forêts (Engref). "The 21st century is science and technology of the living." What are major issues, especially given growing needs related to demographics, says Rémi Toussain, the Director-General. In addition, we are to realize agricultural, climate and environmental challenges are very. To deal with, it must have a very broad set of skills, both technical, economic, social, political, not to mention the ethical dimension... These skills, it is the job of our school. "For all these challenges, the institution is committed for several years in a series of reforms, which have profoundly changed its physiognomy. First, the establishment, in 2007, of a single institution: three schools under a same governance, each issuing his engineering degree, and the name of AgroParisTech. All to multiply synergies.

Open society issues

This merger will be accompanied to the 2010 term, of a consolidation of the training offer. The original curriculum, first, has been fully reviewed. It now aims to train engineers (and decision makers) "with a systemic, global and long-term vision." The first year, common to all students, provides an opening on the major challenges of society: feed the world, health, environment, processing of the products of the Earth. Then, come in second and third years, deepening lessons that students choose according to their areas of interest. Emphasis is also placed on research: all students benefit from an introduction on the subject. And 14 of engineers then perform a thesis - the objective is to achieve a rate of 20. The new school also close major research institutes public, such as Inra (1), world leader for Agronomy and Cemagref (2).

Beyond its initial curriculum, AgroParisTech intends to be "a"graduate school"full", with a wide range of programs for professionals wishing to complete their training. It offers a master's degree in "Science and technology of the living and the environment", which she has full responsibility - a unique case among major schools. AgroParisTech is also to introduce its new line "executive" which includes a Doctoral School (not less than 450 researchers), programs "postdiplôme" type specialized masters (10), plus half a dozen formations labelled, "part time" continuing education courses, short courses and qualifications. "We have an approach more"proactive"in the direction of our potential customers - without so entering a pure commercial logic, explains Laurent Rosso, Director of the Engref and AgroParisTech Executive." This leads us to be more responsive to the needs of our partners. It is a real change of culture for the school. "In total, AgroParisTech is some 200 listeners to here in three years

Another major step, the integration in the ParisTech consortium, which brings together 11 Parisian schools of engineers, and HEC. Members benefit from increased international visibility and can share a number of activities - for example in the collection of funds.

International development

At the same time, AgroParisTech has highly developed international. It is already 20 of foreign students. If it is not implementation out of the Hexagon, school multiplies strategic partnerships. In China, Africa, Latin America, or even in Australia. Several projects dual degree are the study, including the Netherlands. The school also participates in the Agrinium international consortium, which brings together several Agronomy schools. AgroParisTech and offered its assistance to Haiti, alongside other institutions.

Remains the point of organ of this strategy, announced for 2013: migration on the site of Saclay. "This will be the culmination of our long-term approach, ensures Rémi Toussain. This implementation will allow us to benefit in full interaction with the other present schools in Saclay. "What, hope the Director, allow it to be included"in the Top 5 global"schools operating on the same domain.
